For the past few years, consumer-products companies have been in the firing line of environmental campaigners. Last summer, the UK-based Energy Saving Trust published a report entitled 'The Ampere Strikes Back' in an attempt to demonstrate that the hunger among consumers for electronic gadgets would push up electricity demand dramatically by 2020.
