German Lift Technologies: Greener Than Green

Approximately 650,000 elevators are running in Germany, and every year about 13,000 new elevators are installed. VFA has about 150 industrial member companies with approximately EUR1 billion (US$1.48 billion) in annual revenue. The members are mainly medium-sized manufacturers of elevators, assembly kits for elevators, drives, cabins, counterweights, ropes and guides, as well as operating and display elements and accessory parts. Their green products are presented every two years at one of the world's largest trade fairs, Interlift in Augsburg, Germany, sponsored by VFA. The employees of the member companies are further educated on environmental issues in seminars and conferences offered by the VFA-Academy. VFA is also heavily involved in German and European legislation and standardization.
