Eco-indicators for urban metabolism

Cities are concentrated centers of production, consumption, and waste disposal, representing microcosms of the global environmental change and offering opportunities for enriching both ecology and global-change science (Grimm, 2008). The study of the sustainability of human-dominated system at city level is crucial for finding a way to balance economic development and ecosystem health within a workable framework (Chen and Yang, 2013).
