Intraplate Deformations in the Southeastern Part of the East European Craton and the Northeastern Indian Ocean: Comparative Analysis of the Morphology and Formation Conditions

Many pieces of evidence have appeared to date indicating that the evolution of intraplate deformations is related to events at intraplate boundaries, especially collision ones. However, many problems of the genesis of intraplate deformations and peculiar structures of the northeastern Indian Ocean remain to be solved. Judging from the specific features of their age and formation dynamics, the evolution of the latter structures is also related to collision of plates. Moreover, these structures are not only remote from the collision boundary, but also isolated within the Indo-Australian megaplate. We unravel many specific features of the structure and formation conditions of oceanic intraplate structures by comparing them to more comprehensively studied continental structures, e.g., structures of the platform area of southeastern Europe (the Scythian Plate and southeastern part of the East European Plate). A hypothesis explaining the mechanism of deformations in the Indian Ocean will be presented in the concluding part of this work.
