摘要

The application of the hydrothermal pyrolysis technique for modeling catagenesis of organic matter in source rocks has substantially widened possibilities in the study of chemical processes and relevant reactions responsible for oil formation. It is believed that the pyrolysate generated in this process is compo-sitionally close to natural oil (unlike in experiments carried out in dry conditions). Modeling of catagenetic reactions implies that long-term slow geological processes are substituted by short-term laboratory experiments carried out under elevated temperatures. Such controlled experiments help us to better understand various aspects of intricate geochem-ical processes that are united into the general term organic matter maturing.
