The problem of reconstructing natural conditions during glacial maxima—Early Zyryanka (Ermakovo) and Late Zyryanka (Sartan)—occupies a prominent place in the study of the Late Neopleistocene paleogeography of West Siberia. Of special importance is paleogeographic reconstruction of the last (Sartan) glacial maximum about 20000-18000 ~(14)C yr BP. Since the 1960s, many researchers have believed that the late Neopleistocene history of the West Siberian Plain was marked by the formation of an ice barrier, which impeded the flow of Ob and Yenisei rivers to the Arctic Ocean, and consequent flooding of vast territories by the so-called Mansi Lake (Sea) with an absolute height of +130m.
