1. It is known that carbonate reservoirs contain significant reserves of oil and gas. However, their development is less efficient than that of terrigenous reservoirs of natural hydrocarbons. One of the reasons for this is insufficient consideration of their properties and the specifics of fluid flow during oil and gas recovery. From a theoretical and practical point of view, oil and gas reservoirs can be divided into porous, fractured single porosity (including fractured-cavernous), and dual porosity types. Such a typification reflects the specifics of their fluid and capacity characteristics. The aim of this paper is to consider types of petroleum reservoirs in carbonate rocks. In carbonate rocks with porous void space texture, pores serve as oil containers and fluid pathways. In fractured single porosity reservoirs, natural hydrocarbons are confined to the fracture system, which also represents the fluid pathway, and the low-permeable porous rock matrix is water-saturated. Dual porosity reservoirs specifically combine properties of previous types of carbonate rocks. Oil is restricted to the low-permeable blocks of the porous matrix, while fractures serve as fluid pathways.
