Genesis of Low Mineralized Soda Waters in the Donets Basin

This communication presents quantitative description of the formation conditions of low mineralized soda waters in the Donets Basin (hereafter, Donbass). It is suggested that the genesis of such waters may be related to evaporation and condensation and that oil-and-gas (hereafter, petroleum) pools may be present in the study region. More than 1000 chemical analyses of groundwater were used to substantiate the spatial and genetic trends of the formation of mine and subsurface waters of the Donbass. The quantitative substantiation of conclusions in this communication is based on an original G-method of multidimensional classification modeling and correlation-regression analysis. A universal function has been proposed to describe the dependence of water mineralization (the content of total dissolved solids, TDS) and depth.
