New Data on the Structure of the Accretionary Prism in Karaginskii Island (Bering Sea)

The Karaginskii Island is an element of the accre-tionary-collisional structures of the Olyutor-Kam-chatka region that borders the young oceanic litho-sphere of the Komandor Basin. In the present-day geo-dynamic setting, the island is located at the diffuse triple junction of the North American, Sea of Okhotsk, and Bering Sea (Beringia) plates (Fig. 1). The island is characterized by NE-oriented (corresponding to the general structural pattern) and NW-striking (orthogonal) fault systems. The orthogonal system is almost parallel to the assumed strike of the present-day diffuse boundary between the North American and Sea of Okhotsk plates, which is characterized by sinis-tral strike-slip kinematics. The largest fault systems are confined to the Markelovskaya and Korokhrinvayam river valleys in the northeastern part of the island (Figs. 1,2).
