The Kvinum-1 Copper-Nickel Prospect in Cortlandites, the Southern Sredinnyi Range, Kamchatka

Copper-nickel sulfide deposits hosted in peculiar amphibole peridotites (cortlandites) are widespread along the eastern coast of Asia. They are characterized by an abundance of high-grade copper-nickel ore-bodies occasionally commensurable in dimensions with cortlandite intrusions. They are represented by swarms of small (intensely amphibolized) dikes and sills with signs of layering. Ore deposits and prospects of this type are known in North Korea, China, the Philippines, and Primorye. Results of geological exploration have shown that Kamchatka is also a potential Ni-bearing province of Russia.
