Real Merits of the Wind Wave Model with an Optimized Source Function

By means of modification of the wind wave model WAM (Cycle-4), a series of numerical experiments was carried out for verification of a new source function proposed earlier [1]. Verification was done on the basis of comparison of the results of wave simulation for a given wind field with the buoy observation data obtained in three oceanic regions. Estimations of simulation accuracy were obtained for a series of wind wave parameters, and their comparison for original and modified model WAM is accomplished. Superiority of the modified model was revealed: an enhancement of speed of calculation by 20-25% and an decrease of root-mean-square simulation errors by 1.5-2 times for the significant wave height H_s and the mean period T_m. The results obtained fix the fact of creation of the scientific basis for construction of a Russian national model of a new generation.
