Internal Waves in the Ionosphere Related to the Earth's Geomagnetic Field

It is known that, if compression and temperature stratification are absent, internal waves are generated in the atmosphere only under the influence of the Coriolis force (the gyroscopic force provides additional stratification of the atmosphere, and specific internal waves are generated). They are known as inertial waves in the short-wave approximation (λ ≤ 10~3 km) and planetary Rossby waves in the long-wave approximation (10~3- 10~4 km). Fundamental parameters of the Earth-rotation frequency of the planet ω_0(y) and its latitudinal gradient ▽ω_0-are important in the dispersion equation for these waves. If rotation is absent, wave motions disappear in the conditions mentioned above and the nonlinear Euler equation for the stream function describes only convective motions in the atmosphere.
