The Nature of Deep Seismic Foci

Analysis of the literature devoted to study of seismic phenomena lends support to the validity of Stacey's inference that "... the question arises about processes resulting in accumulation of ductile strains according to mechanisms determining the onset of an earthquake. These are basic, yet unsolved problems" [1, p. 242]. This inference has remained valid for more than 30 years of study of seismic phenomena.
