摘要

Alkali metal chlorides were detected recently at deep levels of the Udachnaya pipe in Yakutia. They occur in both carbonate-chloride nodules and the groundmass of kimberlite. The results of isotopic study indicate the mantle origin of chlorides; i.e., the primary kimberlite magma was enriched in alkali metals, chlorine, and carbon. Since kimberlite melt can transport diamonds from the mantle, the melts of alkali metal chlorides probably are potential reagents (solvents) with respect to natural diamonds.
