On Climate Changes in Polar Zones of the Earth in the Twentieth and Twenty-First Centuries

The analysis of temperature variation series for the Arctic (～100 years long) and Antarctic (～200 years long) regions and variations in the angular velocity of the Earth's rotation (day duration; ～350 years long) exhibits a clear-cut correlation of them and the presence of a statistically significant spectral peak with a period of nearly 65 years. The variation of the angular velocity of the planet's rotation reflects the angular momentum change for the atmosphere, i.e., its general circulation. Hence, it may be suggested that the variation of the day duration is the indicator of climatic changes on the Earth. This furnishes the opportunity to offer a scenario for temperature fluctuations superimposed on the general growth related to the growth of the greenhouse gas concentration.
