Experimental research into sea levels fluctuations at the group of stations installed in the region of the South Kuril Islands allowed singling out some important peculiarities of wave field formation in the range of tsunami periods both in ordinary situations and in extreme ones.rnThe existing differences of the averaged spectral characteristics of the natural long-wave background at different stations depict the influence of frequency selective features of the water area. They are more expressed in the sea inlet Malaya Tserkovnaya where the peak corresponding to zero mode of sea inlet fluctuations is well distinguished. Clear stable peaks in the spectrum of sea level variations at the periods of about 40 and 26 min have been found near the coast of Kush-anir Island in the region of the Cape of Lovtsov. Probably they are conditioned by the influence of the arched shallow shelf. The shelf is shorter and sea-bottomed near the coasts of Urup Island; that is why frequency selective features are expressed significantly more weakly here. Although a well-expressed peak with a period of 19-20 min exists at both stations located near the Cape of Van-der-Lind and the Cape of Kastrikum.
