Alkali Volcanism of the Bathymetrists Seamounts Chain (Central Atlantic): Description and Comparison

The eastern part of the Central Atlantic contains widely spread tectonomagmatic rises (Cape Verde, Madeira, and the Canary islands; the Sierra Leone Rise; the chain of Bathymetrists Seamounts). They belong to the active segments of oceanic margins, which were involved in tectonomagmatic processes of different ages [1, 2].rnComparatively little is known about the evolution and character of volcanism of the spacious system of the Sierra Leone and Bathymetrists seamounts. Trachytes, trachyandesites, and trachybasalts were erupted within these structures in the Early Eocene [3, 4]. In the Middle Eocene, shallow limestones were formed there on the carbonate banks [5], which later experienced subsidence. The closest well studied volcanic province is the Cape Verde islands [6].
