Quasi-Biennial Variations in the Total NO_2 Content

This paper presents the first results of the analysis of quasi-biennial variations in the NO_2 content in the atmospheric vertical column based on long-term ground-based measurements within the international Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC). The amplitude of the variations at mid-latitudes and polar latitudes is 2-3%, and reaches 4-5% in the tropics and in the vicinity of the poles. The phase of variations increases with latitude in the Southern Hemisphere, while the variation of phase in the Northern Hemisphere is not monotonic.
