Study of the Dynamics of Saltating Sand Grains over Desertified Territories

We studied the process of transporting saltating sand grains over sandy desertified territories by means of high-speed video recording [1, 2]. We retrieved the vertical profiles of saltating sand grain concentration in the lower saltation layer approximately 40 mm thick. It was shown that the concentration of sand grains exponentially decreases with height. We performed the measurement of time variability of the total concentration of sand grains in the lower saltation layer with a frequency of 1200 Hz. We found the effect of stochastic resonance during saltation in the frequency range approximately from 100 to 200 Hz (mode -160 Hz). We solved the inverse problem of the saltating sand grain dynamics in the spherical particle approximation for individual trajectories.
