This past fall marked the return of Golden Gophers football to the University of Minnesota campus. Since 1982, the team had been playing in exile at the downtown Minneapolis Metrodome, home of the Vikings and Twins. But that changed with construction of the Gophers' own new TCF Bank Stadium, which was ready in time for kickoff in September.rnThe 50,805-seat venue, connected to the U of M's own district energy networks, was designed to reflect the university's commitment to energy conservation, sustainability and responsible environmental stewardship. The stadium is the first collegiate or professional football facility in the nation to achieve LEED~? (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
