$9 Billion of CHP Projects Left Behind

IDEA's Seattle Steam and Thermal Energy Corp. are two of just 41 projects that received funding as part of the U.S. Department of Energy's $144 million of clean-energy project grants. There were 367 applicants rejected, representing nearly $9 billion of shovel-ready combined heat and power (CHP), waste energy recovery and district energy projects, according to the U.S. Clean Heat and Power Association (USCHPA). All together, the projects could have created approximately 57,000 jobs.rnJessica Bridges, executive director of the USCHPA, said that although USCHPA commends the awards, "there is an acute, unmet opportunity to create jobs and cut pollution through clean heat and power projects."
