Work Begins on Prince George District System

Construction of a biomass-fueled district energy system is under way in Prince George, B.C. Based at the Lakeland Mills sawmill, the system will burn wood waste from the mill to heat water, which will be piped underground to civic and other downtown buildings for space heating. The estimated CAN$14.14 million ($13.7 million) project is expected to be commissioned in spring 2012. The city anticipates that the system will reduce fine particulate emissions by 100 tonnes a year and greenhouse gas emissions by 1,868 tonnes per year.
