I found your article about optical filters for DV cameras interesting ["The Curse of Digital Video," December 2000, page 60]. You state that the DSP in the lower-end cameras are tuned to compensate for lower-quality optics. Maybe so, but as you know, all modern cameras, including 3/4-inch HD models, use DSP to improve dynamic range and image detail. The issue is: by how much? The JVC GY-DV500 uses the same image block as some of the V2-inch Sonys. Yet the final images are quite different. So most of the difference must be in DSP.
