When anyone starts a sentence with the words: "Everyone agrees that ..." the skeptics among us see danger signs and hear alarm bells ring, but when the full sentence is: "Everyone agrees that people are an organization's greatest asset" you know you are on pretty safe ground. When anyone starts a sentence with the words: "We all know that ..." the wary - some would say cynical - among us become all too aware of those same warning signals and get ready for rebuttal and counter arguments. But, when the words that follow are "... for an organization to succeed everyone has to perform well" we're dealing with pretty straightforward stuff. Such words are used by, among others, the UK's Investors in People, a partnership of business and other groups who successfully promote the value of improving the way organizations - no matter what type or size - go about their work. Those who proudly display their Investors in People Standard see it as a sign to others that they're prepared to take stock of their people's performance and abilities.
