I recently read The Arts of Leadership by Keith Grint. It is an historical account of leadership throughout the last century going right up to the current day which looks at people like Hitler and Napoleon. It really is a state of the art book. It's fascinating because I think understanding contemporary leadership and how we manage or look after people requires us to reflect back and Grint does that. He is a first rate economic historian. One Minute Manager type books just do not appeal to me. I like a book that has some substance to it - that tells you where we have come from, why we have got to where we are and where we are likely to go.
