Role of Mass-Media in Swine Flu Outbreak in Buenos Aires

It is hypothesized that last years, Mass-Media seems to contribute to create aclimate of anxiety, angst and fear. From an unexpected earthquake to the outbreak of a lethal virus, journalism disseminates news containing testimoniesand chronicles of disasters as a form of entertainment. Directly or indirectly,puplic opinion priorized the disaster as a way of mass-consumption; thesekinds of virtualized events are often covered by means of electronic multi-media. This point was well-described and studied by postmodern philosophersas J. Baudrillard, S. Zizek or M. Foucault. Under such a context, this note ofresearch succinctly explores the roots of fearduring the last outbreak of SwineFlu in Buenos Aires and the effects of this inside a rent-a-car company.
