Purpose of the Study. To measure the levels of cat and dog allergens in schools.Methods. Dust samples from four Swedish schools were taken from floors and the horizontal surfaces of chairs and tables. The levels of cat allergen ( Fel d I) and dog allergen ( Can f I) in these dust samples were measured.Results. Higher amounts of cat allergen were found on chairs than on tables or floors. The concentration of dog allergen was 2 to 20 times higher than cat allergen.Reviewer's Comments. Children and teachers who have close contact with cats and dogs bring these allergens into the school environment. Concentrations of these allergens were high enough to cause symptoms in sensitized children.
