Fusarium head blight (FHB) is a worldwide serious disease of wheat, since many graminaceous Fusarium species have the potential to produce mycotoxins in grain, which are harmful to animal and human health. Cultural and chemical control measures prevent only partly the attack of Fusarium spp. The breeding of resistant cultivars is unavoidable to reduce the risk of FHB epidemics. Series of substitution lines of single chromosomes from Cheyenne, Hope and Lutescens 62 into Chinese Spring were investigated under artificial inoculation with Fusarium culmorum in order to illuminate the inheritance of resistance to FHB. Chromosomes 3B from Cheyenne and 5A from Lutescens 62 were found to have negative effects on both head blight symptoms and tolerance. Several other chromosomes showed effects on single resistance mechanisms.
