Crisis in Cameroon: Does criminological theory apply?

In this paper, criminological theories are introduced to help explain why corruption is so banal and incipient in Cameroon. Why corruption is more prevalent in some countries than in others has been the subject of several studies. Many of the studies have examined this phenomenon from a historical, economic, political science, cultural viewpoint. Almost absent in the literature are explanations of corruption and its impact from a criminological perspective. Using Cameroon as a case study, this research attempts to fill that void. Three research questions are answered: (1) how do contemporary social problems including corruption in Cameroon pertain to criminological theory? (2) does the application of criminological theory to the Cameroon scene help better understand what is going on in this rapidly changing socio-cultural landscape? (3) What measures political, legal, social, can be employed to curb corruption in the country?
