Heritabilities and phenotypic correlations of growth performance traits in Japanese quails

AresearchwasconductedattheNationalVeterinaryResearchInstituteVom,PlateauStatetoestimatemeans,heritabilitiesandphenotypiccorrelationsofgrowthperformanceinJapanesequails.Datawerecollectedfromfirstgenerationbirdshatchedfrom400eggsrandomlycollectedfromabreederstockandthesecondgenerationbirdsresultedfrommatingofthefirstgenerationbirds.Heritabilitiesofthetwoperformanceswereestimatedfromsireanddamcomponentofvarianceandtheyhadmediumtohighestimates,indicatingthattheycouldbeimprovedthroughindividualselection.Phenotypiccorrelationswereestimatedfromsib-analysisofvarianceandcovariance,andrangedfrom-0.06to0.85.
