EffectofPolyethyleneglycol(PEG,MW6000)oninvitrodigestibilityofCalliandracalothyrsusaloneormixedwithBrachiariaruziziensis,TrypsacumlaxumorPennisetumpurpureum,indryandrainyseasonsinWestCameroonTheeffectofBrachiariaruziziensis,TrypsacumlaxumorPennisetumpurpureumontheinvitrodigestibilityofCalliandracalothyrsus,inpresenceorabsenceofPolyethyleneglycol(PEG,MW6000),wasstudiedindryandrainyseasonsinWestCameroon.ThisstudyrevealedthatadditionofPEGincreasedthegasproductionofCalliandracalothyrsusfrom27.6to34.9ml/200mgDMintherainyseasonandfrom27.7to33.8ml/200mgDMindryseason.InpresenceofBrachiariaruziziensis,additionofPEGsignificantlyincreasedthegasandshortchainfattyacid(SCFA)productionintherainyseasonandinthedryseasoninthepresenceofTrypsacumlaxumandPennisetumpurpureum.AdditionofPEGdecreasedthepartitioningfactor(PF)ofCalliandracalothyrsusfrom6.81to3.90mg/mlindryseasonandfrom7.61to3.81mg/mlinrainyseason.InthepresenceofgrassesandinthepresenceorabsenceofPEG,thePFofCalliandracalothyrsusvariedbetween4.62and6.42mg/mlinthedryandrainyseasons.Therewasnosignificantdifferencebetweenthemicrobialmass(MM)yieldedfromthedegradationofCalliandracalothyrsusinthepresenceorintheabsenceofPEG,TrypsacumlaxumandPennisetumpurpureumbetweenthedryandtherainyseason.Theorganicmatterdigestibility(OMD)ofCalliandracalothyrsuswassignificantlyhigherinthedryseasoninthepresenceofTrypsacumlaxum,PennisetumpurpureumandPEG.IntheabsenceofgrassestheOMDofCalliandracalothyrsuswasbothsignificantlyhigherintheabsenceofPEGandinthepresenceofPEGintherainyseasonascomparedtothedryseason.
