Twenty-eightmultiparousHolstein-Zebucrossbredcowsinmid-lactationwererandomlyassignedtoreceive4levelsofcottonseedmeal(CSM)(2,3,4,5kg/head/day)indietsbasedonadlibitumricestrawandcassavachips(5kg/head/day).IncreasingthelevelofCSMfrom2to5kg/daylinearlydecreasedstrawintakefrom1.25to0.88%liveweight.Cottonseedmealsignificantlyincreasedmilkyielduptothe4kglevelofsupplementation(from8.56to11.3kg/dof3.5%FCM).ItisconcludedthatproteinsupplementationwithCSMupto4kg/head/daysignificantlyenhancesmilkyieldwithoutaffectingmilkcompositionincrossbreddairycowsfedricestrawinthetropics.
