Who knew that you can tell the quality of the steel used in cars from their shape? The undulating forms and tight folds in modern bodywork would not be possible without today's strongyet easily malleable steel. Cars used to be much more angular for a reason. Their improved safety and lower weight are also largely down to stronger materials. And that in turn is all about the crystal structure of the steel: as a rule, smaller crystals make for stronger, tougher metal.
