A better view for helmsmen and (fighter) pilots

Following a predetermined route is routine work for ship's officers. Things are different when unexpected events take place and a vessel suddenly has to give way. At that point there is a real risk of things going wrong, according to Dr Leo van Breda, who was conducting research into the human factors in the field of steering and control tasks at the TNO Human Factors Research Institute. As part of his Ph.D. research at Delft University of Technology Van Breda developed new methods of providing information to watch officers on board ships and for (fighter) pilots.
