The politics of tourism development, booms and busts in Ireland

O'Brien has looked at tourism development in Ireland since the 1930s in a distinctive way by tracing the shifts in policy and the interactions between the industry and government. She begins by asking: Why tourism? This is a question which is not asked often enough. O'Brien reviews the literature on the politics of tourism as her aim is to examine how 'political economic analysis' can assist in understanding tourism development. O'Brien has used documentary analysis and semi-structured interviews with key informants to underpin a grounded theory approach.
