Toro Goes Underground with First Two Horizontal Drills

Toro, perhaps best known for its mowers and Dingo compact utility loaders, has come full circle from its purchase of Astec's horizontal directional drills by revamping the Astec models and introducing the first two HDDs for its own line, the DD2024 and DD4045. The smaller entry is the DD2024, which combines a compact design with 20,000 pounds of pull-back force and 2,400 lb.-ft. of rotary torque. Powered by a 74-horsepower Cummins B3.3 tur-bocharged diesel engine, the unit's quad rack and pinion carrier design spreads the load evenly for smooth and stable movement, Toro says. The onboard mud pump flows up to 30 gpm, and the floating carriage has two speeds, including a 120 fpm fast mode.
