It's about a year away, but Cummins has begun touting a new automotive-type die-sel, the ISV5.0, a 5-liter (302-cubic-inch) V-8 that it's marketing to manufacturers of light- and medium-duty on-road vehicles. The relatively high-speed engine promises high performance in a compact package with low total cost of ownership, executives said at an introduction in their company's home town of Columbus, Ind. The modest-size engine is aimed at pickup-and-delivery vehicles, other light- and medium-duty trucks, school buses and mo-torhomes.
