Announcement

The Editor-in-Chief, Editors, Advisory Editor and the Publisher have the sad duty to announce the death of Professor Olgierd C. Zienkiewicz. Olek passed away in Swansea on 2 January 2009. The International Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering was founded by Olek Zienkiewicz and Dick Gallagher in 1969. Olek was a major contributor to its success. He was one of the giants in the development of the finite element method. He will be greatly missed. We extend our sympathy to Helen, his wife, and to all of his family. An obituary will be published shortly in this journal.
