Indian textile processing sector and its impact on surface water quality

摘要

This paper describes the impact assessment of textile processing units on surface water quality of India. The study was carried out in major textile processing clusters by analysing the waste water discharges of selected processing units, to find out the effluent characteristics of such units and average effluent characteristics of the waste water produced by processing units in these clusters. The results were used to find out the addition of pollutants load by textile processing units, on source water used in processing. The contribution of various pollutants on total pollutants load was worked out and suitability of waste water for agriculture was also determined based on Ch/oride/TDS ratio.
