Reactive dyes for textile printing

Printing of cellulose textiles with reactive dyes is both a mature and developing sector. The traditional approaches using classical printing techniques are stabilised and mature. The processes are well defined and the dye selection has consolidated to monochlorotriazine reactive dyes for the all-in printing techniques and vinyl sulphone dyes for discharge printing ground shades. There appears little likelihood of any major new developments. On the other hand ink jet printing is still at its infancy and this is an area of new developments. If the ink jet technology is to become of major significance in textile printing not only is there a need for more machine developments but also there will be a need for different dyestuffs leading to developments in physical and probably organin chemistry.
