I was 13 years old in 1941 when Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese. Everything changed in an instant. My hometown Chester, Pennsylvania, on the Delaware River was turned into a manufacturing center for military equipment. Baldwin Locomotive Works began to produce tanks. The Sun Shipyard began to produce cargo ships. Thousands of men and women moved up from the South to answer the call for workers.
