Information Literacy In Benin: Current Situation And Prospects For The Future

摘要

Benin was ranked 163rd of 177 countries in the world according to the UNDP Human Development Index in 2006. During the same year, the enrolment rate in primary school was 96%; only half of pupils registered succeed in completing the primary school level. Computer science is not officially introduced in the training programme in secondary school and there is no use or teaching of information and communication technologies, nor course on information research and evaluation. This means that the Benin educational system does not prepare students for information literacy. That situation is a hindrance to the economic, cultural, social, education and scientific future of the country and speaks to tomorrow's leaders' skills and abilities to research, evaluate and use wisely information to yield knowledge.
