This trans-disciplinary examination explores the interplay between the worlds of business leadership and theology. It finds parallels between theological ethics and the contemporary language of change management. A prayer of Reinhold Niebuhr forms the basis of this exploration: 'God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference'. Implications are examined for competency frameworks and training programmes. Augmenting these frameworks through attributes such as serenity, courage and wisdom can be beneficial for all who seek to lead ethically.
