PROPOSITIONS POUR UN RETOUR À LA DÉFINITION ORIGINELLE DE L'HOMOLOGIE, D'APRÈS L'ANALYSE DE LA CHÉTOTAXIE DES COLLEMBOLES

A taxonomic study on the Collembola raises several problems on the topic of homo-logy. In one basic point of our argument, we claim that the question on the definition of homology cannot be resolved in a general way, but needs to be in accordance with the facts resulting from the taxonomic research. It is then possible that an ornithologist would give a slightly different meaning to the word homology than would a collembologist. For instance, the study on Collembola raises the problem of significance of chaetotaxic structures for distinguishing organs. This step seems to be fundamental as well as distinct from research in phylogcnetics. Incorporating the concept of bomology into this first step involves a return to the classical definition of homology which is the similarity of relative position, and connections of one organ in relation to other organs. The case of vertitional (probabilistic) organs raises another problem. After examining the case where the probability is equal to zero, we propose to apply the concept of homology to the nodes of a chaetotaxic network.%Un récent travail taxinomique sur des Collemboles nous a amené à soulever plusieurs problèmes que pose la notion d'homologie. Un point essentiel de notre raisonnement est que la question de la définition de l'homologie ne peut trouver de solution générale, mais doit être en correspondance avec la réalité de la recherche taxinomique : un ornithologue peut donner un sens légèrement différent au mot homologie qu'un collembologiste. Ainsi, l'étude des Collemboles soulève le problème de l'importance de la structure chéto-taxique dans l'identification des organes. Cette étape apparaît comme fondamentale et indépendante de la recherche des relations phylogénétiques. Intégrer le concept d'homologie dans cette première ╚ape conduit à revenir à la définition classique de l'homologie, c'est-à-dire à la similarité dans la position relative et les connexions d'un organe vis-à-vis d'autres organes. Un autre problème est celui des organes vertitionnels (probabilisles). Le cas de la probabilité nulle nous amène à proposer d'appliquer le concept d'homologie aux noeuds du réseau chétotaxique.
