Bangkok: The cabinet on July 30 approved a 16.3 billion baht budget for the armed forces to spend on a variety of projects aimed at enhancing national defence, a cabinet source said. The navy received a tied-over five year budget of almost 15 billion baht, while 718 million baht was allocated to the air force and 600 million baht to the army for the next fiscal year, the source said. The navy is to spend the budget on procuring a new frigate from South Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, to be used for sea and anti-aircraft combat.
