John Garbini was stuck with a nagging humidity problem. Facility support manager at the Angiotech plant in Reading, Pennsylvania, Garbini had tried dehumidifiers, a large industrial desiccant unit, balanced dampers, and reduced air pressure, all with no success. Employees at the plant assemble and package sterile disposable scalpels and surgical needles with attached sutures. High humidity in the facility's Class 8 cleanrooms can encourage bacterial growth and prematurely degrade one type of moisture-activated suture that is designed to slowly dissolve following surgery.
