摘要

This joint redevelopment project involved a land-space exchange by 13 local landowners and Tokyo University of Science, reflecting the Kagurazaka district's blend of residences, education and entertainment. The low-rise portion retains the traditional style of narrow merchants houses, with residences above shops, lining the street. The high-rise portion contains rooms for use by the university. In accordance with the building code for Kagurazaka Street, the north-facing roofs are slanted to let in natural light, creating a bright and open space. The site originally had alleyways linking two sides of the district downtown and the university campus, that were very different in terms of scale. The newly enlarged passageways through this building traces this feature. Passageways allowing pedestrians to traverse the area stretch into the interior of the building to entice them to the shops and restaurants on the basement levels and the second floor. Meanwhile, the segmentalized facade facing Kagurazaka Street inherits the scale and the diversity of the town.
