Aesthetics, Narrative and the Materials of Architecture

There are many ways we become engaged with architecture. Aesthetic experience usually includes the perception of qualities generating feeling or emotion. Our response to artworks is sometimes understood as a tasteful recognition of so-called aesthetic properties such as graceful or elegant. However, as an account of our aesthetic experience of artworks, that kind of response is seriously incomplete - especially when it comes to architecture.Through its complexities and complications, and its position as a negotiable and interactive art, architecture affords sensual encounters that are neither purely visceral nor grasped all at once.
