Faced with this issue's kaleidoscopic deconstructing of the architect's identity, one problem crops up repeatedly: the confusion between the architect as an individual and the architect in practice. Is it realistic to think of the architect as a misunderstood genius, like an artist? Can a practice, consisting of many individuals, really convey 'Kunstwollen'? Is it any wonder, then, that architects themselves are confused?
