As Bernard Tschumi has written, '"manifestoes" resemble contracts that the undersigned make with themselves and with society'. For IF_DO, as a new practice, it was an intentionally optimistic declaration of intent, a commitment to the world, and a marker against which the studio could be judged both by itself and by others.
